Reminders: Use WINE with Caution

Postby arisgailseemendoza » Sat Feb 13, 2010 8:46 pm

Hi Pipol!

I just want to open up ang paggamit ng WINE sa Linux. We all know that WINE is a program used to run Windows application sa Linux.

Pero kung sa tingin niyo ay wala naman kayong ni-ru-run na Windows Apps eh much better to uninstall the WINE to prevent from such security vulnerabilities. Hehehe! You can always install back Wine gamit ang Synaptic.

For more information on Wine, you can visit their site at http://www.winehq.org/. You can also search thru your favorite search engines ang mga information tungkol sa Wine sa mga forums and discussions.

Enjoy! Have a safe computing!

I am a Wine user, since I have to run Microsoft Office - I am not productive with OpenOffice/LibreOffice

Virus infecting Wine setup?? No big deal guys, just remove Wine using your fav package manager, then reinstall it again. It's like doing a complete reformat:P

No need to remove or reinstall WINE itself. All you need to do is just delete the:

/home/<your_username>/.wine directory.

The next time you try to run a Windows program, WINE will recreate this directory from scratch.

I used to reply on WINE. But now, i like to use VM, eg, vmware or xen. It is easier to run windows applications in vm. WINE is not stable enough.
